Religious Education

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6

Our religious education program supports our families as they form their children in the Catholic Faith.  It is our prayer that together as parents and catechists, we awaken and nourish the gift of faith given to us at Baptism. The key to lifelong faith is a relationship with Jesus Christ. A life of prayer, including weekly Mass attendance, is important to establish at any age.

The Sacred Heart Parish Religious Education program is developed for children in K-12 grades who attend local public schools. Fall classes begin September 13, 2023

Classes for Kindergarten – 6th Grade Students are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in Sacred Heart Academy’s Elementary School. We use a textbook series called “Alive in Christ” published by Our Sunday Visitor. This series is approved by the Diocese of Saginaw Curriculum Guidelines. Our goal is to assist parents by supporting and supplementing their efforts to foster faith development in their children.

A group of very dedicated adults (some with teen assistants) serve as Catechists (teachers) for this program. They use their time and talents preparing and implementing lessons which lovingly share the Good News of Jesus with our young ones. We also meet a few times throughout the year for planning and in-service sessions. The Diocese provides several opportunities for our Catechists to update, strengthen and renew their own faith formation so they are better able to meet the needs of their students. If you are interested in joining our team to assist in this special ministry, please contact our Director of Religious Education at: aroberge@sha.net
